Roughriders Earn ACCAC Title with Sweep of Eastern Arizona

ACCAC CHAMPIONS!!!

On Tuesday afternoon at Bill Vallely Field, the #5 ranked Roughrider softball team swept a doubleheader from fellow ACCAC nemesis Eastern Arizona College to capture the 2017 ACCAC regular season Championship. Yavapai won the first game 5-4 and the second game 13-9. YC concludes the regular season with 48-5 overall record and 44-4 in conference play. Eastern Arizona falls to 38-17 on the year and 32-14 in league play.

In the opener, the Roughriders came from behind to garner the victory. Eastern Arizona jumped out to 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the second inning. Kalee Mabray got the home team on the board with a solo home run. Yavapai tied the score in the bottom of the fourth inning when Jaydee Boursaw launched her nation leading thirty second home run. YC scored the winning run in the fifth inning.

Mahina Chong paced the Roughriders from the plate going 3 for 4. Boursaw was 2 for 3 with 4 runs batted.

Amy Robinson was solid in the win throwing 6 innings and striking out six.

In the second game, once again, the Roughriders had to come from behind as the Gila Monsters scored 3 runs in their half of the first inning. YC tied the score in the first inning on a three-run home run from Andrea Sotelo and the very next batter, Jaydee Boursaw, put the Riders on top with a solo home run, her second of the day. Later in the inning, Kaylee Mabry hit her first of two home runs for the game.

The Roughrider scored in every inning.

Kiana Spencer threw five innings to garner the victory from the slab.

Yavapai has now awaits the NJCAA Region I Tournament. The tournament will be held at Bill Vallely Field on May 5 and 6. More details to come.
