Softball Dominates on Sophomore Day 11-1 in 2 Game Sweep

On the day that the sophomores were honored, the #5 ranked Roughrider softball team swept a doubleheader from the Aritchokes from Scottsdale Community College, 5-0 and 6-1. Yavapai improves to 46-5 on the year and 42-4 in the ACCAC standings. Scottsdalle falls to 18-32 overall and 13-31 in conference play.

In the opener, Jadyee Boursaw got the Riders on the board with a three-run home run in the third inning. Andrea Sotelo knocked a two-run homer in the fifth inning to secure the victory.

In the nightcap, Boursaw was 3 for 4 with 5 RBI’s to lead the Riders. Shayna Ige, Sotelo and Mercedes Rothwell each had two hits.

Kiana Spencer struck out 7 in six innings for the victory.

YC looks to clinch the ACCAC Championship and the right to host the NJCAA Region I Tournament on Tuesday, April 25th in their final regular season doubleheader. YC entertains fellow Division I foe the Gila Monsters from Eastern Arizona College. YC split a doubleheader with the Gila Monsters in their first meeting of the year. EAC won the opener 8-3 and the Lady Roughrider won the second game 5-3. Tuesday’s games begin at 12:00 PM.
