Roughrider Bring Home a Victory in Extra Innings
The Roughrider baseball team split an ACCAC doubleheader Tuesday afternoon with Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix. Paradise Valley won the opener, 6-2 and Yavapai won the nightcap in extra innings, 6-5. Yavapai is now 27-19 on the season and 13-13 in conference action.
The Roughrider offense could only manage two runs on 8 hits in the opener. YC stranded 7 runners in the 7-inning affair. Dallas Tessar was 3 for 3 with a double and Jonathan Villa was 2 for 3. Caden Goldby was 1 for 3 with a solo home run.
Paradise Valley scored 4 runs in the opening frame and added two insurance runs in the third and fourth innings. YC scored solo runs in the third and fouth innings.
The second game went an extra frame after the teams could not decide the result in regulation play. With the game tied at 5, YC was able to push the winning run over in the 10th inning. Jacob Eder singled to left and Jonathan Villa followed with a double. Dallas Tessar was intentionally walked to load the bases and Dylan Enwiller singled home Eder for the winning margin. Paradise Valley threatened in their half of the 10th inning with two singles but Andrew Gross was able to get three outs for the win.
Tessar, Cory Wills and Villa each had three hits. RJ Cordeiro had two hits with a home run. Jeddediah Fagg and Carlos Viera had two hits apiece.
YC continues league play on Saturday when they host fellow Division I foe South Mountain Community College. The Cougars swept the Riders in their first meeting, 5-0 and 7-6. The twinbill begins at 12:00 PM at Roughrider Park in Prescott.
