Roughriders Sweep Thunderbirds in a Home Doubleheader

The Roughrider baseball team swept a doubleheader Saturday afternoon against the NJCAA Division II #5 ranked Mesa Community College Thunderbirds, 10-9 and 14-5. Yavapai is now 26-18 on the year and 12-12 in conference action. Mesa falls to 32-12 overall and 17-11 in ACCAC play.

Yavapai jumped out to an early 8-2 lead in the first two innings of the first game only to see the Thunderbirds tie the game in the in their half of the 4th and take the lead in the top of the 5th. YC tied it up in their half of the fifth and regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth and Andrew Gross got the final three outs to preserve the victory.

Caden Goldby led the Roughrider offense going 3 for 3 with 2 RBI’s and a home run. Carlos Viera was also 3 for 3 with 2 runs batted in. Jeddediah Fagg, Cory Wills and Jaxxon Fagg ead had two hits.

In the nightcap, Yavapai had 18 hits and 14 RBI’s in the lop-sided victory. Four Roughriders hit home runs including back-to-back home runs from Dylan Enwiller and Dallas Tessar. Adbiel Morales and RJ Cordeiro each had 3 hits. Cordeiro was one a home run away from hitting for the cycle. Carols Viera, Jaxxon Fagg, Cory Wills and Enwiller each had two hits. Wills and Viera each hit a home run.

Jake Kolterman won his sixth game of the year throwing six innings and striking out 3.

YC continues ACCAC play on Tuesday, April 11th at Paradise Valley Community College. The doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM.
