Roughrider Outscore Gauchos 24-2 in 2 Game Sweep
The #10 ranked Roughrider softball team braved the snowy conditions on Friday afternoon at Bill Vallely Field to sweep a league doubleheader from the Gauchos from Glendale Community College, 16-2 and 8-0. YC improves on their league leading conference record to 31-3 and 35-4 overall. Glendale falls to 9-29 on the season and 6-28 in the ACCAC standings.
The Rider Hit Women had 15 RBI’s to go along with the 16 runs in the first game. YC scored at least two runs in each inning starting with seven runs in the first inning. Jaydee Boursaw was 4 for 4 with a home run and 2 doubles knocking in 4 runs. Andrea Sotelo was 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and 4 runs scored. Raelynn Rios was 3 for 4 with 4 runs batted in.
Amy Robinson scattered 3 hits in three innings pitched. Kalee Mabray threw the final two innings.
Kiana Spencer and Santana Parra combined for the no-hit shutout. Spencer started the game throwing four innings and striking out 3 Gaucho batter. Santana Parra threw the final inning striking out 1.
Offensively, Boursaw hit her second home run of the day and 21st of the year, a single season Yavapai College record for most home runs in a season. Mahina Chong was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored.
YC continues conference play on Tuesday, April 4th as they entertain the Thunderbirds from Mesa Community College. In February, the Riders swept a doubleheader from Mesa 10-2 and 23-1. Tuesday’s games will start at 12:00 PM.
