Roughriders Fall to Artichokes
The Roughrider baseball team dropped a single game Friday afternoon to Scottsdale Community College in Scottsdale, 10-6. YC falls to 20-15 overall and 6-9 in ACCAC action. Scottsdale improves to 22-13 on the year and 10-9 in conference play.
Yavapai played from behind for most of the nine-inning game. Scottsdale scored a single run in the opening frame and YC responded with one of their own in their half of the second inning. However, Scottsdale put three runs on the board in the bottom of the second. The Roughriders tied the game up in the top of the third and Scottsdale regained the lead in the bottom of the third with one run. The Artichokes scored one run in the bottom of the fourth but the Riders tied the game with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Scottsdale sealed the deal in the bottom of the seventh as they scored 4 runs on four hits.
The Roughrider defense struggled on Friday as they committed five errors. Jake Kolterman was the starting pitcher allowing 3 earned runs in five innings. Hayden Durkiewicz took the loss despite allowing 0 earned runs.
Jeddediah Fagg led the Riders from the plate going 4 for 4 with 3 RBI’s with a home run. Carlos Viera, Adbiel Morales and Caden Goldby each had two hits.
These same two teams play a single, nine-inning game on Saturday at Roughrider Park. The first pitch will be thrown at 12:00 PM.
