Softball Remains in 1st Place Tie After Split with Phoenix College
The Roughrider softball team split a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Bill Vallely Field with the NJCAA Division II Phoenix College Bears. YC won the first game 5-2 and dropped the second game 11-3. Yavapai is now 29-4 overall and 25-3 in the ACCAC.
Andrea Sotelo hit two home runs and Amy Robinson allowed only 2 hits to aid in the victory. Sotelo hit a two-run shot in the opening frame and knocked a solo shot in the third inning. She was 3 for 3 with 3 RBI’s and 2 runs scored. Karissa Pena and Shayne Ige were each 2 for 3.
YC could not overcome and early Phoenix College lead in the nightcap. The Bears scored 3 runs in the second and third innings. YC scored three runs in their half of the third inning on Sotelo’s third home run of the day and a two-run home run by Jaydee Boursaw, however, that would be the only scoring that the Roughriders would score in the game.
Yavapai continues ACCAC action on Saturday, March 25 at Paradise Valley Community College. YC beat the Pumas early in the year 8-0 and 9-0. Saturday’s games will begin at 12:00 PM.
