Roughriders Sweep Gila Monsters on the Road

The Roughrider baseball team swept a road conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon in Thatcher over Eastern Arizona College, 10-5 and 16-3. In their last four games, YC has scored 57 runs while only giving up only 14 runs. YC improves to 18-12 on the year and 5-7 in conference play. Eastern Arizona falls to 11-19 overall and 1-11 in the ACCAC.

In the first game, Yavapai score 6 runs in the first three innings before the Gila Monsters got on the board with two of their own. YC added a single run in the fifth and sixth innings and pushed two more runs across in the seventh inning.

Jake Kolterman won his fourth game of the year giving up one earned run while striking out six.

Offensively, Jaxxon Fagg led the Riders going 4 for 4 with a home run, double, five runs batted in and two runs scored. Jonathan Villa was 2 for 4 and Cory Wills was 1 for 2 with a homer and two runs scored.

In the nightcap, Yavapai scored 16 runs on 16 hits with 15 runs batted in and 7 extra base hits. The Riders controlled the game early with two home runs in the first inning by Jeddediah Fagg and Dallas Tessar. YC added four more runs in the second inning and capped their scoring off in the 9th inning with 7 runs.

Zach Pederson got the win from the mound scattering 6 hits and striking out 5. Andrew Gross threw the final inning and a half.

Yavapai takes a break from conference play on Friday, March 17th as they host Langley Blaze (http://www.langleyblaze.pointstreaksites.com/view/langleyblaze/club-info ). The doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM.
