Roughriders Win 17th Consecutive
The Roughrider softball team extended their winning streak to 17 games with a doubleheader sweep over Scottsdale Community College Tuesday afternoon in Scottsdale. Yavapai won the first game 7-3 and the nightcap 5-3. Yavapai improves their overall record to 23-2 and 19-1 and in first place in the ACCAC standings.
In the first game, the Riders pounded 14 hits and Amy Robinson pitched a complete game for the victory in the circle. Yavapai scored 2 runs in the first two innings and added 3 more in the fifth inning.
Four YC hitters had multiple hits. Mikayla Newham was 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored and Karissa Pena was 3 for 3 with a double, 2 runs batted in and 1 run scored. Andrea Sotelo was 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, 2 RBI’s and 2 runs scored. Raelynn Rios was 2 for 4.
Robinson scattered five hits and struck out 9 Artichoke hitters.
Despite being outhit in the second game, the Roughriders were able to outlast the opponent for the victory. Scottsdale had 6 hits while Yavapai only managed five hits. Sotelo had two hits with a ribbie and Rios dealt the big blow with a 3-run home run in the third inning.
Kiana Spencer pitched the full game for the win while striking out 8 batters.
Yavapai remains on the road in their next conference game at fellow ACCAC DI foe Eastern Arizona College. The doubleheader will be played in Thatcher beginning at 1:00 PM.
