Roughriders Dominate the Matadors 16-2 in Doubleheader Wins

The Roughrider softball team swept a conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Bill Vallely Field over fellow ACCAC DI opponent, Arizona Western College. YC won the first game 12-0 and won the second one 4-2. Yavapai improves to 19-2 overall and 15-1 in league action. Arizona Western falls to 13-8 on the year and 9-7 in the conference standings.

IN the opener, Amy Robinson threw a one-hitter while striking out two en route to the shutout.

There was plenty of offense for the Riders as Jaydee Boursaw led Roughriders to victory by driving in five runs. She went 2-for-3 at the plate. The California native drove in runs on a single in the third and a home run in the fourth.
The Roughriders captured the lead in the first inning. Raelynn Rios homered on a 2-0 count in the first inning driving home Mahina Chong.

The Roughrider’s big inning was in the 3rd. With two outs, YC got a single from Raelyn Rios, a double by Karissa Pena and a single from Boursaw followed by a home run from Mariah Kalamaras. But YC was not done. Savana Ramirez doubled and Shayna Ige singled followed by a home run off the bat of Mahina Chong.

YC added three more runs in the fourth on a Boursaw home run.

Home runs for Roughriders came when Rios homered in the first inning, Boursaw homered in the fourth inning, Chong homered in the third inning, and Kalamaras homered in the third inning.
Roughriders collected 15 hits. Savana Ramirez, Karissa Pena, Boursaw, Rios, and Ige each collected multiple hits for Roughriders. Ramirez went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Roughriders in hits.

In the nightcap, Yavapai jumped out to an early lead over the Matadors on a
Karissa Pena run scoring single.

The Roughriders scored three more runs in the fourth inning on back-to-back-to-back home runs by Raelynn Rios, Pena and Jaydee Boursaw.

The Green and Gold had nine hits in the game. Mariah Kalamaras, Pena, and Andrea Sotelo each collected multiple hits for Roughriders. Sotelo, Pena, and Kalamaras each collected two hits to lead Roughriders.

Yavapai continues conference play on Tuesday, February 28th as they entertain the Geckos from Gateway Community College beginning at 12:00 PM.
