Baseball Knocks Out 18 Runs in 2 Wins

The Roughrider baseball team won a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon over Thompson Rivers University, 10-0 and 8-4 at Roughrider Park. YC improves to 9-7 on the season.

In the first game, RJ Martinez threw blanks to get the first Roughrider shutout on the year. The California native allowed just one hit and struck out eleven.

YC took an early lead in the first inning when Cory Wills singled and scored on an Adbiel Morales doubled on a 1-0 count. Running for Morales, Jacob Eder scored on a Jaxxon Fagg single.

Yavapai scored five runs in the second inning on three doubles and back-to-back homeruns by Dylan Enwiller and Morales. Yavapai College Roughriders Varsity scored on a double by Over Torres, a double by Cory Wills, a home run by Dylan Enwiller, and a home run by Morales. The home team tacked on two more runs in the fifth and 1 in the sixth.

The Roughriders had 14 hits in the game. Fagg, Wills, Enwiller, Morales, and RJ Cordeiro each collected multiple hit. Wills and Fagg each collected three hits.

In the second game, YC took the lead late for the 8-6 victory. With the game tied at four in the bottom of the fifth YC got 3 singles and a three-run home run from Caden Goldby to break the tie.

Goldby led Yavapai driving in five runs. He went 2-for-3 at the plate. The sophomore outfielder drove in runs on a double in the fourth and a home run in the fifth.

Trent Bixby earned the win for YC. He tossed four innings, surrendering four runs, four hits, striking out four, and walking zero.

Yavapai had 12 hits in the game. Enwiller, Carlos Viera, and Goldby each collected multiple hits.

YC returns to conference play on Saturday as they entertain fellow Division I foe, Central Arizona College. The doubleheader begins at 12:00 PM at Roughrider Park.
