The Roughrider baseball team dropped a road ACCAC doubleheader Tuesday afternoon to Cochise College in Douglas. YC fell in the first game 6-1 and the nightcap, 3-2. The Roughriders fall to 9-9 on the season and remain winless in the conference at 0-4.

In the opener, the game slipped away early for the Riders and couldn’t recover. Cochise scored three first inning runs and tacked on one more in the second inning. The Apaches put two more runs on the board in the fifth inning. Yavapai scored their only run in the sixth inning when Adbiel Morales chased Dylan Enwiller home on a fielder’s choice.

Avery Weems took the loss for Yavapai. He tossed five innings, allowing six runs, five hits, and striking out five.
Dylan Enwiller led the Green and Gold with two hits in three at bats.

In the second game, YC lost the lead late in the 3-2 defeat. With the game tied at two in the bottom of the sixth, Cochise got a timely triple driving in the winning run.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Cochise pitchers struck out five, while the Roughriders sat down 11.

The Riders took an early lead in the second inning when Caden Goldby doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run. Goldby scored on a single by Jacob Eder to take the 2-0 lead. However, in the bottom of the fifth inning, Cochise tied things up at two and took the lead for good with one run in the sixth inning.

Jake Kolterman started the game for YC. He tossed five innings, allowing two runs, four hits, and striking out seven.

Goldby and Eder each drove in one run. Enwiller was 2 for 5.

YC takes a break from conference play as they play host to Thompson Rivers University out of Canada on Wednesday. The doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM.
