Yavapai Evens the Series at 2-2 Against Salt Lake

The Yavapai College baseball team jumped out to an early lead over Salt Lake Community College Wednesday afternoon and took home a 12-4 victory at Roughrider Park to even the four-game series at 2-2. Both teams are now 4-4 on the young season.

Yavapai scored five runs in the second inning to take a commanding 5-0 lead. Salt Lake got on the board in the fifth inning with a single run and added 3 more in the sixth inning. In their half of the sixth inning, the Roughriders put the game out of reach with seven runs highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of Carlos Viera.

The Roughriders outhit the Bruins on the day. Salt Lake had ten hits and Yavapai had eleven knocks. Dallas Tessar was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and a run batted in. Viera was 2 for 5 with 3 RBI’s and a run scored. Caden Goldby was 2 for 3 with 3 runs knocked in and two runs scored.

RJ Martinez earned the victory from the mound throwing 5 innings, scattering 4 hits and recording 3 strikeouts.

The Roughriders travel to Henderson, NV for four single games against College of Southern Idaho, College of Southern Nevada, College of Eastern Utah and Salt Lake Community College.
