Yavapai Softball Dominates Paradise Valley
The YC softball team swept a doubleheader over Paradise Valley Community College Tuesday afternoon at Bill Valley Field. Yavapai won 8-0 and 9-0 and improves to 9-2 overall and 5-1 in ACCAC action.
In the opener, Amy Robinson threw the shutout allowing just seven hits and striking out three.
Yavapai got an early lead with two runs in the first inning and five in the second frame thanks to a double by Andrea Sotelo and a home run by Karissa Pena.
The Roughriders collected seven hits. Sotelo and Raelynn Rios each collected multiple hits for the home team. Pena, Mariah Kalamaras, and Mikayla Newham all had two hits.
In the second game, two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Santan Parra threw four innings and Kiana Spencer threw one inning.
Roughriders took an early lead in the first inning on Raelynn Rios’s sac fly and Pena’s double. YC added three more runs in second inning on three singles and an error. To conclude the scoring, Yavapai used 3 walks and 2 doubles to secure the victory.
The Green and Gold had seven hits in the game. Sotelo and Rothwell each collected multiple hits for the Roughriders. Rothwell and Sotelo each collected two. Roughriders was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error.
Yavapai continues conference play on Saturday at conference nemesis Pima. The doubleheader begins at 1:00 PM.
