Volleyball Makes It 4 Road Victories in a Row

The Roughrider Volleyball squad traveled to Thatcher, AZ for the 2nd time in 8 days and again returned home with a 5 set victory over the Gila Monsters. The two teams traded set wins with Yavapai winning the 1st (25-21), 3rd (25-22), and 5th (15-10). Eastern Arizona College won the 2nd (20-25) and 4th (22-25).

2016-volleyball-9-23-10Yavapai’s offensive output was strong most of the match with an overall hitting percentage of .233.The team hit above .200 in 4 of the 5 sets and had a team high percentage of .350 in the all important 5th set. Freshman right side hitter Kaytlin Yost was the team leader with 20 kills and a percentage of .333. Yost also added 3 service aces and 5 blocks. Kaytlin is currently the ACCAC leader in service aces per set. Second was sophomore outside hitter Iva Alebic who contributed 14 kills and another double / double with 10 digs. The offense was set up by sophomore setter Jordan Tilley who accumulated 44 assists and and 13 digs. Tilley also chipped in 3 kills.

The victory keeps Yavapai in the thick of the District C playoff race as the Roughriders look to defend their championship from 2015. Yavapai will return to ACCAC action on Wednesday at 7:00 pm in Walraven Gym as they welcome Pima Community College to Prescott.
