Volleyball Extends Their Winning Streak to 4 In a Row
The Roughriders started off the evening by unveiling their 2015 District C Championship banner, then jumped out to an early lead of the Gila Monsters of Eastern Arizona College. Yavapai won the match in straight sets by scores of 25-16, 25-21, and 25-19.
The win improves the team’s record to 1-1 in ACCAC competition and 4-2 overall.
The Roughrider offense was well balanced with sophomore Iva Alebic leading the way with 13 kills (.265), freshman Kaytlin Yost was a close 2nd with 12 kills (.241) and freshman Bailey Anderson chipped in 6 while hitting .500. As a team Yavapai hit a season high .265 with 40 kills, only 16 errors, on 98 attempts. Sophomore Jordan Tilley set the offense totaling 21 assists, 13 digs, and added 2 kills.
Defensively Yavapai was stellar collecting 11 total blocks (6 solo) and 52 digs. Freshman libero Hannah Semon anchored the defense with 20 of the digs and she chipped in 4 assists.
Tomorrow the Roughriders welcome 6 new teams to Prescott for the 3rd annual Roughrider Invitational. The field will be represented by teams from Arizona (4), Colorado (1), Nevada (1), New Mexico (1), and Utah (1). Yavapai will again take the court in Walraven Gym at 10:00 am vs. College of Southern Nevada, then play Colorado Northwestern CC at 7:00 pm. The Roughriders will complete their weekend by taking on New Mexico Military Institute at 4:00 pm on Saturday. Admission is free all weekend.
