Roughrider Volleyball Improves to 3-2 with 2 Wins on Saturday
The Roughriders performed well in both of their Saturday matches at the Coyote Classic in Las Vegas, NV. Yavapai started the morning off with a 3-1 (20-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-23) over Utah State University – Eastern. After dropping the first set by 5 points Yavapai stormed back to win the next 3 sets by a total of 12 points. Team totals for the match include; 47 kills (.192), 67 digs, and 13 service aces. Freshman right side hitter Kaytlin Yost was dominant in all aspects of the game accumulating 16 kills, 4 total blocks, and 4 service aces. Freshman libero Hannah Semon anchored the defense with 23 digs and 3 service aces.
The Roughriders then had to return to the court for another match just 30 minutes later when they took on Lee College (TX). The team avenged last year’s 0-3 loss to the Generals with a strong 3-2 win with scores of: 19-25, 25-21, 25-15, 16-25, 15-13. Sophomore setter Jordan Tilley contributed in all aspects of the game including 25 assists, 9 digs, 4 kills (.364), and 1 service ace. Both freshmen middle blockers; Baylie Stephens and Bailey Anderson were major contributors with a combined 15 kills and 5 total blocks.
Yavapai will lo0k to improve their ACCAC record as they take on the Gila Monsters of Eastern Arizona College for their first home match of the season on Thursday September 1st at 7:00 pm.
