Roughriders Advance to West District Chamionship
The Roughrider baseball team advanced to the NJCAA Western District Championship game with an 8-4 victory over Western Nevada College Saturday afternoon in Trinidad, Colorado.
After six lead changes in Friday’s game, Yavapai finally pulled out a 8-4 win over the Western Nevada College Wildcats.
YC finally managed to grab the lead after a strong seventh inning. The Riders scored on an RBI single by Ramsey Romano, bringing home Turtle Kuhaulua.
Romano racked up four RBIs on two hits for the Green and Gold.
Andrew Gross got the win in relief pitching 3 1/3 innings and allowed no runs.
Western Nevada College jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second. But it didn’t take long for the Roughriders to answer as it scored one run of its own in the fourth. YC scored on an RBI single by Gavin Johns.
Yavapai scored at least one run in the final five innings to secure their spot in the championship game.
On Saturday, the title game will be played against Western Nevada College, winners over Trinidad State College this evening. If Western Nevada wins that game, another championship game will be played with the winner advancing to the NJCAA Division I World Series. Saturday’s game will begin at 1:00 PM Colorado Time, 12:00 PM Arizona Time.
