Roughriders Dominate Coyotes
The #17 ranked Roughrider softball team swept a doubleheader Thursday afternoon from Chandler-Gilbert Community College, 4-0 and 15-0. YC improves their overall record to 39-11 and their ACCAC mark to 31-9. Chandler-Gilbert falls to 4-37 on the year and 4-34 in league play.
Thursday was a great day for Amy Robinson, as Robinson tossed the shutout. Robinson kept the Coyotes off the scoreboard for all seven innings she was in the circle allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on two hits while ringing up nine.
All of the offense was produced in the first two innings of the game. In the first inning Mahina Chong doubled home Nicole Matta and Dustie Durham. In the second inning, Matta doubled home Savana Ramirez and Shayna Ige to conclude the scoring for the Roughriders.
In the second game, Jalyn McClain got the victory from the rubber throwing all five innings allowing only 2 hits and striking out 4.
The Riders scored three runs in the first inning and broke loose in the second inning with five runs. Sarah Ingegneri, Andrea Sotelo and Chong each knocked home runs in the frame. Yavapai added 7 more runs in their half of the fourth inning.
Matta and Sotelo each had three hits. Matta had a double and scored three runs. Sotelo had 2 doubles, a home run and 5 runs batted in.
YC continues conference play on Tuesday, April 19th at Mesa Community College. On March 5th, the Roughriders swept a doubleheader from the Thunderbirds, 9-1 and 12-5. Tuesday’s twin bill starts at 1:00 PM.
