Roughriders Ink Elite Setter from Las Vegas
Today Head Volleyball Coach, Zach Shaver announced the National Letter of Intent signing of Hayley Huntsman. Huntsman is a 5’10” setter from Las Vegas, NV where she was a standout setter for LV Impact Volleyball Club and Bonanza High School. Under the tutelage of Coach Wilkinson and Coach Savage Hayley has earned numerous individual awards including; Bonanza HS Team MVP (junior & senior seasons), MaxPrep Nevada Player of the Year, and First Team All-Conference (sophomore through senior seasons). Huntsman also earned All Tournament honors several times at the Boulder City Invitational and the Longhorn Classic.
As a setter Hayley’s high school career statistics were so impressive that she has already been inducted into the Bonanza High School Hall of Fame before she graduates in June.. She finished with 2,226 assists, 987 digs, 685 kills, 323 service aces, and 212 blocks for the Tigers. While playing for the LV Impact 18’s team she led the team to a bronze medal finish at both the Fiesta Classic in Phoenix and the Colorado Crossroads in Denver.
When asked to describe Hayley Huntsman Coach Shaver said “We feel very fortunate that Hayley chose to become a Roughrider and join our team! She was a very highly recruited setter that had countless collegiate options but fortunately the goals she has set for herself and our program goals are aligned. Hayley poses everything we look for in a high level setter including athleticism, confident decision making, and years of high level setter training from quality coaches including Charlene Johnson Whitted (BYU, Univ. of Nebraska, and USA Volleyball Olympian). These characteristics will allow her jump right into our balanced offensive system. Hayley sets consistently to both pins and connects well with quicker tempo middle attackers as well.”
Hayley Huntsman is the 7th incoming freshman to sign with Yavapai for 2016. Hayley joins libero Lauren Ulibarri (Flagstaff, AZ), middle blocker Baylie Stephens (Oro Valley, AZ), outside hitter Jailyn Butler (Parker, AZ), middle blocker Bailey Anderson (Prescott, AZ), right side hitter Kaitlin Yost (Fullerton, CA), and middle blocker Maddie McKeown (Juneau, AK). The 2016 volleyball season starts away from Prescott on August 24th as the Roughriders travel to Mesa, AZ to take on the Thunderbirds.
The Roughriders will look to build on their success from 2015 in which they won the program’s first ever NJCAA District C / Region 1 Championship. The Championship earned Yavapai a trip to the NJCAA DI National Championship Tournament which was held in Casper, WY. The full 2016 schedule will be released soon.
