Roughriders Sweep Coyotes at Home

The Roughrider baseball team used some timely hitting to record an ACCAC doubleheader sweep over Chandler-Gilbert Community College Tuesday afternoon at Roughrider Park, 11-5 and 13-12. YC is now 13-4 in the ACCAC standings and 26-11 on the season. The Coyotes fall to 5-17 in conference action and 15-23 overall.

In the opener, an eight-run explosion in the fifth inning carried YC to the 11-5 win.

The Roughriders scored in the fifth on a bases loaded walk by Dylan Enwiller, a two-run single by Turtle Kuhaulua, a two-run double by Nate Easley, and a three-run home run by Gavin Johns.

Johns racked up three RBIs on three hits for the Green and Gold.

Chase Beal got it done on the bump on the way to a win. He allowed three runs over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out six, walked three and surrendered 10 hits.

Yavapai never trailed after scoring one run in the second and after posting one run in the third, the Riders again scored one in the sixth.

In the third, Yavapai scored on an RBI single by Ramsey Romano, scoring Johns.

Dylan Enwiller’s walk-off double off boosted the Roughriders to the 13-12 win in the nightcap.

Enwiller had three hits in the game. He singled in the fourth inning and doubled in the eighth and ninth innings.

Each team blasted the other’s pitching, and there were 25 total runs and 23 hits during the game. Managers of the two teams seemingly emptied their bullpens in search of the win, as there were nine pitchers used in the game.

With the game tied at 8, the Coyotes put 4 runs on the board in their half of the seventh inning. Yavapai failed to score in the bottom of the frame and held Chandler-Gilbert scoreless in the top of the eighth. Yavapai scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth with the equalizer coming on a two-run home run by Gavin Johns.

In the bottom of the ninth Romano and Jaxxon Fagg walked leading up to Enwiller’s game winning hit.

Nicko Ortega pitched the final 2.2 innings for the victory.

On Saturday, Yavapai travels to Phoenix to play Gateway Community College. The twinbill begins at 12:00 PM.
