Yavapai Dominates Paradise Valley
The Roughrider softball team swept an ACCAC doubleheader Saturday afternoon over Paradise Valley Community College, 4-2 and 8-1. Yavapai improves to 26-10 on the season and 18-8 in conference play. Paradise Valley falls to 6-20 in league play and on the year.
In the opener, Yavapai scored 3 runs in their half of the sixth inning on a Sydney Forray three-run homer and Amy Robinson shut the door in the bottom of the 7th inning to record the victory. Jocylin Ellis was 3 for 4. Karissa Pena, Andrea Sotelo and Mikayla Newham each had two hits. Forray was 1 for 1 with 3 RBI’s. Robinson threw the complete game striking out 3 and scattering 7 hits.
In the nightcap, the Roughrider bats were alive early as they scored 5 runs in the first two innings. Dustie Durham got the victory in the circle and was 2 for 4 from the plate. Sotelo and Ellis had two hits a piece.
Yavapai continues conference play on Tuesday, March 22nd as they entertain conference nemesis Pima Community College. In February, YC swept the Aztecs in Tucson, 5-1 and 3-2. Tuesday’s doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM.
