Softball Goes 1-1 in First Day of Deanna Mauer Classic
Taking a break from conference play, the Roughrider softball team participated in the Deanna Mauer Classic in Casa Grande, AZ Friday afternoon. YC beat Lake Region State College in the opener, 8-0 and falling to Midland College in the nightcap, 4-3. Yavapai is now 22-8 on the season.
In the first game, Dustie Durham was the star as she led the Riders from the circle and the plate. The Buckeye native recorded the victory throwing five innings, scattering three hits and striking out eight. She also was 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBI’s. Lyndsey Smith was 1 for 1 with a grand slam.
In the second game, YC fell behind early, 3-0. The lady sluggers tied the game up in the top of the fifth inning only to give up the game winner in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Smith had the hot bat for YC as she was 3 for 4 with a triple, a run scored and an RBI. Mikayla Newham and Savana Ramirez each had two hits.
Amy Robinson was the hard luck loser from the circle. She worked out of 11 difficult moments for the Lady Riders. The Oregon native pitched 6 2/3 innings and allowed no earned runs on five hits.
The Green and Gold conclude tournament play on Saturday against Howard College at 1:00 PM and El Paso Community College at 3:30 PM. YC returns to ACCAC action on Tuesday, March 15th playing host to Phoenix College. The games will begin at 12:00 PM.
