Softball Increases Winning Streak to 12

The Roughrider softball team won their 11th and 12th consecutive game as they swept a doubleheader from the visiting Thunderbirds from Mesa Community College. Yavapai is now 20-6 on the season and 15-5 in ACCAC action. MCC falls to 9-13 on the year and 7-13 in conference play.

In the opener, the Roughriders used a five-run explosion in the second inning to cruise to the 9-1 victory. YC scored in the second on a sacrifice fly by Jessica Mesa, an RBI single by Dustie Durham, and a three-run home run by Sydney Forray.

Forray racked up four RBIs on three hits.

Amy Robinson had an impressive outing against Mesa’s lineup. The opponent managed just two hits off of Robinson, who allowed one earned run, walked one and struck out five during her five innings of work.

In the first inning, the Green and Gold went up for good, scoring three runs on an RBI double by Forray and a two-run home run by Andrea Sotelo.

Another big inning carried the Roughriders to the victory in the nightcap. A seven-run explosion in the fourth inning carried YC to the 12-5 win.

The Lady Riders scored in the fourth on an error, an RBI double by Sydney Forray, an RBI double by Andrea Sotelo, an RBI double by Lynea Klemmedson, a wild pitch, and a two-run double by Karissa Pena.

The teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to four lead changes in the game.

Andrea Sotelo racked up four RBIs on four hits for Yavapai College Roughriders Softball.

Even though Dustie Durham allowed five runs over six innings she still recorded the victory. Durham struck out two, walked none and gave up four hits.

Mesa jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first. The leadoff batter got things with a single. Mesa then tacked on more runs when one runner scored on an RBI single and later scored on an RBI double.

Yavapai continues conference play on Tuesday, March 8th as they host Glendale Community College. The twinbill will start at 12:00 PM.
