Yavapai Sweeps Scottsdale
The Roughrider softball swept their fourth consecutive conference series Saturday afternoon over the Artichokes of Scottdale Community College, 5-4 and 10-2. Yavapai is now 16-6 on the season and improves to 11-5 in the ACCAC standings. Scottsdale falls to 3-17 on the year and 3-11 conference action.
In the opener, the Roughriders scored 2 runs in their half of the seventh inning to take the lead and Amy Robinson retired the side in the bottom of the seventh to record the victory. Robinson pitched the full game surrendering 7 hits and striking out 3.
Offensively, Jocilyn Ellis, Sydney Forray and Dustie Durham each had two hits.
In the nightcap, YC scored 10 runs on 16 hits including two home runs. Nicole Matta was 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored. Lynea Klemmedson and Sarah Ingegneri head had two hits with a home run. Mikayla Newham was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI’s. Ellis, Durham and Lyndsey Smith each had two hits.
Durham threw six innings, allowing seven hits while striking out four.
Yavapai continues ACCAC action on Tuesday, March 1st at South Mountain Community College. The first pitch will be thrown at 1:00 PM.
