Roughriders Stumble Against Matadors
The Roughrider softball team dropped an ACCAC DI twinbill Tuesday afternoon in Yuma to Arizona Western College, 3-2 and 11-3. YC falls to 8-6 on the year and 3-5 in conference play.
Not even a strong hitting and pitching performance from Dustie Durham could carry the Roughriders past the Matadors in the opener on Tuesday as Yavapai suffered the 3-2 defeat.
Durham had a hot bat for the Green and Gold. The Buckeye, AZ native went 2 for 3 and scored one run. She singled in the fourth and sixth innings.
Durham was a workhorse from the circle. She allowed three earned runs, four hits and two walks while striking out two over six innings of work.
Unfortunately, Durham was the game’s hard-luck pitcher.
In the nightcap, Karissa Pena went 2 for 2 at the plate but the softballers fell 11-3.
Amy Robinson was the game’s losing pitcher. She allowed eight runs in four innings, walked two and struck out one.
In the top of the second, the Riders grabbed the early lead, 2-0. A solo blast by Sydney Forray started the inning off and YC pushed another run across on a solo home run by Pena. Savana Ramirez provided the final run for the Roughriders with a solo home run in the third.
Yavapai resumes conference play on Saturday, February 20th with a doubleheader against Gateway Community College. The games will be held at Bill Vallely Park and will begin at 12:00 PM.
