Roughriders Split with Gila Monsters

2016 Softball (EAZ Home)The Roughrider softball team split an ACCAC Division I doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Bill Valley Field with Eastern Arizona College. EAC won the first game, 4-0 and YC edged the Gila Monsters in extra innings, 4-3 in the second game.

In the opener, YC won the hit battle 7-6, but couldn’t push enough runs across to get the win, instead losing 4-0 in seven innings to the Gila Monsters.

Amy Robinson handled Eastern Arizona’s lineup with ease, racking up eight strikeouts. Robinson allowed one earned run on six hits and no walks over seven innings. Robinson was charged with the loss.

Sydney Forray had two hits for the Riders.

In the nightcap, Forray had two extra base hits, sparking the Green and Gold to a 4-3 victory in eight innings. She doubled in the first and sixth innings and singled in the eighth inning.

Amy Robinson worked out of eight tough situations for the Roughriders. She pitched two innings and allowed no earned runs on no hits. Robinson faced her toughest moment in the eighth inning.

Dustie Durham got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. She allowed three runs over six innings. She struck out three, walked three and surrendered seven hits.

Forray, Mikayla Newham and Durham helped lead the Riders. They combined for seven hits and three RBIs.

YC continues ACCAC DI action on Tuesday, February 16th at Arizona Western College. The Roughriders return to the friendly confines of Bill Vallely Field on Saturday, February 20th entertaining the Geckos from Gateway Community College. The first pitch will be at 12:00 PM.
