Justin Meram Scores Fastest Goal in MLS Playoff History
Well that didn’t take long. After just nine seconds, former Yavapai College soccer player, Justin Meram, opened the scoring for Columbus Crew SC against the New York Red Bulls in a 2-0 Eastern Conference Championship win. The goal was the fastest in Audi MLS Cup Playoff history. Meram led the Roughriders to consecutive national championships in 2007 and 2008. In his All-American and NJCAA Hall of Fame career for Yavapai College, he scored 51 goals, recorded 30 assists accounting for 132 points.
Yavapai fastest goals include 18 seconds (with kickoff) against Phoenix College in 2000, 20 seconds (without kickoff) against Chandler-Gilbert in 2005 and just five seconds (to begin the second half) against South Mountain in 2012.
