Volleyball Inks 2 Arizona Standouts on Signing Day

Sunday November 1st was the initial signing day for NJCAA DI volleyball. Roughrider head coach Zach Shaver is excited to announce the signing of 2 outstanding Arizona recruits, Lauren Ulibarri and Baylie Stephens.

Lauren Ulibarri signing 2Lauren Ulibarri is 5’4″ libero from Flagstaff, AZ. Lauren has played at a high level throughout her prep career at Flagstaff High School under the direction of head coach Beth Haglin. Ulibarri also competed at a high club level with Northern Arizona Juniors, and High Altitude Volleyball Club. Lauren helped lead the Eagles to a DIII State Championship in 2013 and the semifinal in 2014. In 2015 Flagstaff High School moved up to DII and has again qualified for the Arizona State Playoffs in which they are the #3 seed. Academically Lauren has had a successful career with a 3.5 or higher GPA throughout her high school career earning her 3 academic letters to date. When asked about Lauren, Coach Shaver said “We were very impressed with Lauren’s skill level and athleticism as a libero when she attended our summer camp in June. She is an outstanding defended, has a tough serve, and is a solid passer. I believe Lauren will continue on the string of great liberos who have chosen to be Roughriders.”

Baylie Stephens SigningBaylie Stephens is a 6′ middle blocker from Oro Valley, AZ. Baylie has enjoyed a stellar prep career at Ironwood Ridge High School and Cactus Juniors Volleyball Club with tutelage from head coach Bill Lang. While at Ironwood Ridge Stephens has helped lead the team to a 3rd place finish her sophomore year, and a State Runner Up finish her junior year. Baylie’s Nighthawk team has also qualified for the 2015 DII Arizona State Playoffs as the #6 seed. Individually Baylie was the section leader in blocks her junior year. Her Club Cactus 17’s team qualified for the prestigious USAV National Championships her junior year. At the conclusion of both her sophomore and junior years of high school Baylie earned the Leadership in Excellence Award. When asked about Baylie, Coach Shaver said “She has all of the skills needed to be a successful middle blocker in the ACCAC but the most impressive thing about Baylie is her personality! She is someone you want to have on the court next you. She is an all around middle blocker meaning she is a good attacker both in front and behind the setter, a solid blocker, and posses an accurate serve. I foresee Baylie being a contributor in the middle for the Roughriders.”
