Roughriders Defeat Gila Monsters 3-0
Yavapai volleyball increased their current win streak to 4 matches with a sweep of Eastern Arizona on Wednesday night. The Roughriders won with scores of 28-26, 26-24, 25-23. The win improves Yavapai’s ACCAC record to 13-2. The win also gave Yavapai their 20th overall win. A 20 win season in collegiate volleyball is the benchmark on which successful programs measure their performance.
Yavapai was strong at the net defensively with 13 total blocks with a 4.33 average per set which is almost double their season average of 2.41. The Roughriders were also tough from the service line with 3 aces. Brooke Donnelly was awesome in the back court with 15 digs which was a team high.
Offensively Yavapai was led by freshman outside hitter Iva Alebic who had 12 kills. Sophomore middle blocker Shelby Mottram had a team high .421 hiting percentage with 10 kills. Third in kills was sophomore right side hitter Kayle Park with 7 and an outstanding .294 hitting percentage.
The Roughriders will return to Walraven gym for their final conference match of the season on Friday night at 7:00 pm as the Vaqueras from Central Arizona College come to Prescott. It will be sophomore night for the Roughriders as they highlight their current sophomore class of Kelsey Park, Kylie Davis, Kelly Bumb, Brooke Donnelly, Ashley Preuss, Kayle Park, Paige Hamilton, and Shelby Mottram. There will be reception immediately following the match in the Yavapai College Community Room. There will also be a Halloween costume contest at intermission during the match.
