Roughrider Win the Crosstown Battle

The Crosstown Battle Against Breast Cancer was truly a battle on the court between the two Prescott based volleyball programs. Yavapai came out on top (3-1) with scores of 23-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-23.

Cancer SurvivorsMore important than the win and the volleyball being played was the fight against breast cancer which is what has brought the Eagles and Roughriders together for 3 consecutive years. The money raised will be donated to the Breast Care Center at YRMC in Prescott Valley. Both teams would like to say thank you to our event sponsors: Barrett Propane, Marriott Hotels, and Warbirdshirts.com. During intermission 3 breast cancer survivors (pictured from left to right:Lisa Roberts, Julie Schoepf, and Nancy Brenton) who all have connections to the Roughriders were honored for their courage and determination to fight breast cancer.

Helping the Roughriders to the victory offensively were Iva Alebic (21 kills), Kelsey Park (10 kills and .308 hitting percentage), Kayle Park (5 kills), and Paige Hamilton (5 kills and .214 hitting percentage). 33 of the teams 43 kills came from the hands of setter Jordan Tilley who also chipped in 9 digs, 1 block, and 1 service ace.

Defensively libero Brooke Donnelly made some incredible digs and hustle plays as she collected a team high 19 digs. Donnelly also contributed 4 assists and 1 service ace.

Yavapai’s overall record improved to 12-4 (remained 5-0 in ACCAC) with the victory. The Roughriders who have won 12 of their last 13 matches will now prepare to play the 2 best teams in the ACCAC next week as Scottsdale (7-1) comes to Prescott on Wednesday then Yavapai will travel to Glendale to take on the conference leaders (7-0). Both matches will start at 7:00 pm.
