Roughriders shutout Artichokes 5-0 in road opener

The Roughrider soccer team recorded their third consecutive shutout in the 2015 road opener with a 5-0 victory over Scottsdale Community College. The kick-off was delayed 30 minutes due to lightning. Yavapai improves to 3-0-0 overall and 2-0-0 in ACCAC play. The Artichokes fall to 0-2-0 on the season.

Five different Roughriders scored tonight in the lopsided victory.

42nd minute – Hugo Gutierrez assisted by Kalvin Parr
62nd minute – Reece Weldon assisted by Niall Louge
66th minute – Kwesi Caesar assisted by Reece Weldon
79th minute – Memo Diaz assisted by Kein Otokore

Defensively, YC ran another clean sheet. Sophomore starter Gregory Patenaude and freshmen Assante Nicewander shared time in goal to record the shutout.

The Green and Gold remain on the road for their next match on Saturday. Yavapai will play at Mesa Community College beginning at 8:00 p.m. before returning home on Tuesday, September 1 against South Mountain Community College.
