Roughriders Ranked 5th in Pre-Season National Poll

The National Junior College Athletic Association has released the 2015 pre-season rankings for Division I men’s soccer and Yavapai College finds themselves in the 5th position. Since 1990, the Roughriders have been ranked in every weekly poll holding the number one position 79 times.

Yavapai College (555-47-26, all-time) will kick off their 27th season with a home match against Laramie County Community College (Wyoming) on Friday, August 21 at Mountain Valley Park in Prescott Valley. The Prescott home opener will take place on Saturday, August 22 versus Gateway Community College in Ken Lindley Field. All home games kick off at 6:00 p.m.

The NJCAA National Tournament will take place Nov. 16-21 and will be hosted by Patrick Henry Community College in Axton, Virginia. The Roughriders have played in exactly half of the national championship games in the past 26 years, capturing seven national championships and runners-up on six occasions. Mercer County Community College (NJ) and Tyler Junior College (TX) won four times; and nine schools have held the trophy once.

The 2015 Roughriders will feature a dozen sophomores and 14 freshmen. Yavapai will be seeking their 25th conference title and 21st national tournament appearance. You can meet the 2015 Roughriders at their free youth soccer clinics on Friday, Aug. 14 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Mountain Valley Park in Prescott Valley and Saturday, Aug. 15 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Ken Lindley Field in Prescott. No registration Is required for boys and girls, ages 5-16. If possible, youngsters should bring their own soccer ball.
