Roughriders Place 2 on NJCAA All-American Teams
The NJCAA Division I Baseball All-Americans were announced Monday. Yavapai College places two players on the All-American squads. Willie Calhoun was named to the First Team and Alexis Olmeda made Second Team.
Calhoun adds another award to his resume. In May, the California native was named the ACCAC Player of the Year. Calhoun led the nation in home runs (31) while hitting a whopping .432. His thirty-one round-trippers broke a school record for home runs in a single season.
Olmeda led the team with a .441 batting average. He also led the team with 24 doubles. In May, Olmeda was named to the First Team All-ACCAC guiding the Roughriders to their first NJCAA World Series appearance since 1996.
The ACCAC was well represented on the All-American Teams. Sebastian Zawada from South Mountain Community College was and Second Team selection and Darrick Hall from Cochise College was named to the Third Team. On the Division II side, Mitchell Morimoto from Mesa Community College is on the Second Team and his teammate, Tyler Carvalho made the Third Team.
