Roughriders End Their Successful Season with 45-18 Record
The Roughrider run in the 2015 NJCAA World Series came to an abrupt halt Tuesday afternoon in a 4-1 loss to Iowa Western Community College in Grand Junction, Colorado. YC concludes the year with a 45-18 overall record; an NJCAA Region I Championship; and an NJCAA Western District Championship.
Today’s game was scoreless through four innings. However, the fifth frame was the difference maker as the Reivers put four runs on the board. Yavapai managed only four hits on the day including a seventh inning solo home run by Alexis Cruz, his second of the tournament.
Jake Kolterman took the loss throwing five innings, surrendering four runs on seven hits while striking out three. Chandler Eden threw 2.2 innings of scoreless innings striking out four of the 10 batters faced. Nicko Ortega pitched the final out.
Cruz, going 1 for 3 with a home run and an RBI, led YC offensively. Alexis Olmeda, Andrew Hermanson and Brody Clifford each had one hit.
