Roughriders Fall But Are Still Alive in NJCAA World Series

The Roughrider baseball team dropped the first game in the NJCAA Division I World Series tonight to Chattahoochee Valley Community College, 9-8 in Grand Junction, CO. YC now falls into the loser’s bracket with the chance to still come back and win the tournament.

Herm2YC jumped all over the opponent pitching in the first inning highlighted by a 2-run triple by Brody Clifford. Chattahoochee Valley put three on the board in their half of the second and then Alexis Cruz crushed a 2-run home run to left center in the top of the third to make the score 7-3.

The Pirates added another run in the bottom of the third to cut into that Roughrider lead. YC posted their final run of the game in the top of the fourth and CVCC pushed across 1 run in the sixth and 4 runs in the seventh for the winning margin.

Degan Harte took the loss for the Riders. Alexis Olmeda was 3 for 5 to lead the Green and Gold offensively.

Yavapai will not await the loser of the Iowa Western Community College/Northwest Florida State game tomorrow. YC will play on Tuesday at 10:00 AM Arizona time. All World Series games can be seen live at http://www.ihigh.com/njcaatv/
