Records: YAVAPAI (22-14 conference; 43-16 overall) swept Cochise in the NJCAA Region I Division I Championship Series, 7-3 and 12-11; SALT LAKE (19-13 conference; 37-23 overall) lost to Southern Nevada in the Region XVIII Championship, 10-2.
All-Time: Yavapai is 17-9 all-time against the Bruins.
Last Meeting: YC won all four meetings with the Bruins to start the season, 5-2, 7-5, 9-8, 16-6.
The setting: The Roughriders are 6-2 on neutral fields this year including 4-0 against Salt Lake at Bradshaw Mountain High School February 1st and 2nd.
Players to watch: YAVAPAI — Willie Calhoun (ACCAC Player of the Year) Luke Doyle, Alexis Olmeda (All-Region I First Team); SALT LAKE – Zach Willis, Austin Ovard, Chris Bradford, Garrett Bushman (All-Region XVII First Team).
Coaches: YAVAPAI — Ryan Cougill (3rd season); SALT LAKE – David Nelson (12th season).
Fun Facts: YC captured their 8th NJCAA Region I Title (1975, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1986, 1993, 2006, 2015)…In 2011, both teams were in the Western District Tournament but did not face each other. Yavapai lost to Lamar and Central Arizona and Salt Lake beat Central Arizona, Lamar and lost to Central Arizona in the Championship.
