Softball Drops 2 in Yuma

The Roughrider softball team was swept in a doubleheader in Yuma Saturday afternoon at the hands for the Matadors from Arizona Western College, 7-0 and 7-6. YC is now 24-24 overall and 18-20 in ACCAC play.

Offensively, the Riders could only muster five hits with Nicole Matta going 2 for 3.

Samantha Blair couldn’t get it done on the rubber taking a loss. She allowed seven runs in five innings, walked none and struck out three.

The nightcap was decided in the seventh inning. Yavapai scored 2 runs in their half the inning but AWC scored two runs of their own in their half of the frame to secure the sweep.

Jessica Mesa racked up two RBIs on two hits for Yavapai College Softball. She singled in the second and seventh innings.

Savanna Velasquez took the loss from the circle. She lasted just 2 2/3 innings, walked none, struck out four, and allowed two runs.

YC returns to the diamond on Tuesday, April 7th as they host Gateway Community College. Yavapai swept the Geckos in February 11-6 and 8-4. Tuesday’s twinbill starts at 12:00 PM.
