Roughrider Baseball Continues Winning Ways

The Roughrider baseball team swept an ACCAC doubleheader Tuesday afternoon over Chandler-Gilbert Community College, 5-3 and 7-6. YC is now 28-8 on the season and 12-6 in conference action. Chandler-Gilbert falls to 7-28 overall and 1-21 in the league standings.

In the opener, a single, bringing home Luke Doyle broke a 3-3 tie, and YC hung on to beat the Coyotes.

Alexis Cruz racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Riders. He doubled in the third inning and singled in the seventh inning.

Degan Harte got the win for the Green and Gold . He allowed three runs over six innings, striking out two, walking three and surrounding four hits.

Chandler-Gilbert jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second, but YC scored two runs in the third inning, and then followed it up with two more in the seventh. In the third, Yavapai College Roughriders scored on a two-run double by Alexis Cruz, scoring Marco Jaime and Brody Clifford.

In the second game, YC scored three runs in the first inning on a two-run home run by Andrew Hermanson and an RBI single by Austin Paschke. However, Chander-Gilbert scored two runs in their half of the inning. Yavapai added three more runs in the next inning.

The Coyotes closed the gap with one run in the fourth inning but YC respoinded in the sixth inning with one run of their own. Chandler-Gilbert kept pace in the 7th inning with 2 runs and added a single run in the 8th. Jake Koltermann threw the final 1.1 innings to preserve the win.

Reza Aleaziz recorded the win for the Roughriders even though he allowed five runs over six innings. Aleaziz struck out three, walked four and gave up eight hits.

Hermanson and Austin Paschke, who teamed up for four hits and five RBIs, sparked the Riders. Alexis Olmeda and Brody Clifford added two hits apiece.

YC returns to the diamond on Saturday, March 28th playing host to Gateway Community College. The Geckos are 20-16 overall and 10-12 in conference play. Saturday’s doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM.
