Yavapai Drops Doubleheader to Phoenix

The Roughrider softball team dropped a doubleheader to league leader Phoenix College Tuesday afternoon in Phoenix, 8-3 and 4-0. Yavapai is now 20-16 on the year and 14-12 in ACCAC play. Phoenix improves to 24-4 overall and 22-4 in conference action.

In the opener, Jocilynn Ellis did all she could to give YC a boost, but it wasn’t enough to get past Phoenix. Ellis went 3 for 4, drove in one and scored one run. She singled in the first, second, and fifth innings.

Samantha Blair ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. She allowed seven runs in five innings, walked three and struck out four.

In the nightcap, Saria Camacho was charged with the loss from the slab. She lasted just 5 2/3 innings, walked four, struck out three, and allowed four runs.

The offense only mustered one hit on the game, Sarah Ingegneri doubled in the fifth inning.

The Roughriders host Paradise Valley Community College on Saturday, March 21st. The doubleheader begins at 12:00 PM at Bill Vallely Field.
