Roughrider’s Offense Comes Up Big Again
The game was never in doubt with the Rider nine pounding out 13 hits and 12 RBI’s. YC began the scoring in the second inning when John King singled home Brock Hartley and Willie Calhoun hit a sacrifice fly to plate Marco Jaime.
YC continued the scoring in the third inning capped off by a two-run home run by Austin Paschke. Douglas College posted a their lone run in the fourth inning, however, the home team put two more runs on the board in the fifth inning and one more in the sixth on Paschke’s second home run of the game. In the seventh inning, the Riders loaded the bases and Calhoun hit his second grand slam in two days for the walk-off run rule victory.
Paschke led the hitting barrage going 3 for 4 with two home runs with 3 runs batted in and 3 runs scored. Alexis Olmeda was 3 for 3 with two doubles and Calhoun was 1 for 3 with 5 RBI’s.
Jesus Garcia got it done on the hill on the way to a win. He allowed one run over six innings. The lanky right-hander struck out two, walked four and gave up two hits.
Yavapai returns to the diamond on Saturday, March 14th hosting Western Nebraska Community College in an afternoon doubleheader. The first pitch will be thrown at 12:00 PM.
