Roughriders Dominate Plainsmen

DSC_0081Fourteen runs in the first three innings helped the #11 Yavapai College baseball team to blow out the Plainsmen from Northeastern Junior College, 25-4. YC improves their overall record to 18-7 while NJC falls to 8-6.

The Roughriders hit four home runs in the win en route to their highest single game run total on the year. Yavapai now has 39 home runs on the year, which leads the NJCAA and ACCAC.

YC began the scoring in the first inning posting two runs on a two-run home run by Alexis Cruz. Northeastern responded cutting the lead in half with a lone run.

DSC_0059The third inning was the decisive frame with YC scoring 12 runs highlighted by a grand slam by Willie Calhoun. Brock Hartley also homered in the inning.

Yavapai College Roughriders easily handled Northeastern pitching as nine hitters combined for 18 hits, 23 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

Reza Aleaziz threw 4.2 innings to get the victory on the hill striking out 5.

YC returns to the diamond on Friday, March 13th hosting Douglas College, Canada in a rare 3:00 PM start time. On Saturday March 14th, Yavapai will play Western Nebraska Community College in a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 PM at Roughrider Park in Prescott.
