Softball Continues Hot Streak Winning 7 of Last 8
The Roughrider softball team swept a conference doubleheader Thursday afternoon over Chandler-Gilbert Community College 10-2 and 7-2 to improve their overall record to 17-11 and 11-7 in conference action. Yavapai has won seven of the last 8 contests. Chandler-Gilbert falls to 4-16 on the year and 3-15 in the ACCAC.
In the opener, Sydney Forray knocked in three runs on three hits including a single, a double and a home run, her third in two games. Jocilynn Ellis was 3 for 4 with two runs scored. Lynea Klemmedson was 1 for 2 with 2 RBI’s and one run scored.
YC took an early lead scoring 1 run in the first inning and 1 run in the third. Chandler-Gilbert tied the game in their half of the fourth, however,
Yavapai took the lead for good posting three runs in the top of the fifth, one run in the sixth and four runs in the seventh.
Samantha Blair threw a complete game to earn the win. The freshman right-hander allowed two earned runs, six hits and three walks while striking out two.
In the nightcap, YC got on the board in the first inning on an RBI single by Jessica Mesa scoring Ellis who reached on a double.
Chandler-Gilbert took the lead in the second inning scoring two runs, however, Yavapai tied the score in the top of the third and took the lead for good in the fourth when Andrea Canela scored on an RBI single by Haylee Darris.
Klemmedson had an active game getting the victory on the slab and going 1 for 4 from the plate with a home run and 2 runs batted in.
Ellis was 3 for 4 with a triple and three runs scored. Sarah Ingegneri was 2 for 3 and Forray was 2 for 4.
The Roughrider nine continues conference play on Saturday, March 7th at Mesa Community College (8-14, 7-13). The first pitch will be at 12:00 PM.
