Roughrider Softball Splits Games with South Mountain CC
The Roughrider softball team split a doubleheader Thursday afternoon in Phoenix with South Mountain Community College, 2-0 and 2-3. YC is now 7-7 in the ACCAC and 13-11 overall. South Mountain goes 7-5 in the league and 10-7 on the year.
In the opener, YC didn’t provide starting pitcher Samantha Blair with much support, but she didn’t need much. Blair pitched seven strong innings to carry the Riders to the 2-0 victory. Blair threw the third Roughrider shutout of the year, allowing no runs on four hits while striking out seven.
Beth Fanger led the Yavapai offense going 3 for 4 scoring one run. She had singles in the third, fourth, and sixth innings. Lynea Klemmedson was 1 for 3 with an RBI.
In the second game, YC jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning, however, those were the only runs that Roughriders would score. Klemmedson ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision as she took the hard-luck the loss. She lasted just 6 2/3 innings, walking one, striking out one, and allowing three runs.
Offensively, Fanger got a hit in each of her four at bats singling in the first, second, fourth, and sixth innings. Shelby Burke was 2 for 4 with an RBI.
YC is scheduled to host Scottsdale Community College (6-7, 10-11) on Saturday, February 28th, weather permitting. The first pitch is to be thrown at 12:00 PM.
