Softball Falls at Home Against Arizona Western

Softball dropped a home doubleheader to the defending NJCAA Region I champions Arizona Western College, 4-6 and 6-12. Yavapa is now 10-10 overall and 4-6 in the ACCAC. Arizona Western improves to 10-6 on the year and 7-1 in conference play.

In the opener, YC was led by Nicole Matta, Jocilyn Ellis and Shelby Burke from the plate. All three got two hits. Matta and Andrea Canela hit home runs. Samantha Blair took the loss from the circle.

In the second game, YC pounded out 12 hits including 2 home runs but the defense also gave up 12 hits with 5 extra base hits. Beth Fanger was 3 for 4 to lead the Riders. Jocilynn Ellis, Canela and Sydney Forray each had 2 hits. Ellis and Forray hit home runs.

Yavapai travels to Gateway Community College on Saturday in an ACCAC doubleheader. The first pitch will be thrown at 12:00 PM.
