Baseball Splits with Cochise on the Road

The Roughrider baseball team split a doubleheader in Douglas with Cochise College Tuesday afternoon, 0-10 and 11-7. YC is now 8-4 overall and 1-3 in ACCAC play. Cochise is 10-4 on the year and 3-1 in the conference standings.

In the first game, Yavapai managed only three hits on the day and the YC defense surrendered five earned runs and committed three errors. Luke Doyle was 2 for 3.

In the nightcap, the Roughider offense found their bats. YC took an early 9-0 lead to cruise to the split. Doyle kept his hot bat going 3 for 6 with a triple and 2 RBI’s. Willie Calhoun, Andrew Hermanson, John King and Tynan Holmstrom each had two hits. Austin Paschke was 1 for 3 with a home run. Jesus Garcia got the victory throwing 6 innings and striking out 7. Nicko Ortega pitched the final two innings for the save.

YC returns to Roughrider Park on Wednesday as they host Thompson Rivers University, Canada. The first pitch will be at 12:00 PM
