Yavapai Baseball Splits with Arizona Western

The Roughrider baseball team split a twin bill with Arizona Western College on Tuesday in a non-conference affair being played at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, 0-3 and 8-5. YC is now 7-1 on the season.

in the first game, YC could only muster 4 hits on the game. Degan Harte was stellar on the mound throwing six innings, scattering 5 hits while striking out 4. Reza Aleaziz took the loss in one inning of play.

In the nightcap, the offense returned with 13 hits, 6 for extra bases. Andrew Hermanson led the charge going 3 for 3 with an RBI. Alexis Cruz was 3 for 4 with 2 runs knocked in. Alexis Olmeda and Austin Paschke were each 2 for 5.

Akoni Arriaga threw 3 innings to to get the victory and Nicko Ortega got the save.

Yavapai begins conference play on Saturday, February 14th against fellow DI nemesis South Mountain Community College. The doubleheader will be played in Phoenix beginning at 12:00 PM.
