Softball Splits on Final Day of Great Western Shootout

The YC softball team concluded play in the Great Western Shootout in Yuma with a split. IN the opener, YC avenged a disappointed loss Friday against Western Nevada College with a 6-4 win this morning. However, Yavapai dropped the final game to Salt Lake Community College, 8-5. The Roughrider nine is now 8-4 overall and are 2-0 in ACCAC play.

In the first game, Andrea Canela led the offense going 3 for 3 with a double and 2 runs scored. Jessica Mesa was 2 for 3 with two runs batted in. Beth Fanger, Nicole Matta and Sarah Ingegneri each had 1 hit.

Samantha Blair started the game throwing 6 innings allowing 0 runs while striking out 3. Blair re-entered the game in the 7th inning with 2 runners aboard and gave up 4 unearned runs to salvage the victory.

In the nightcap, Fanger, Jocilyn Ellis and Shelby Burke each 2 hits. Burke and Fanger knocked in 2 runs each.

ON Tuesday, February 10th, the Riders will play host to conference nemesis Central Arizona College in their 2015 home debut. The doubleheader will be being at 12:00 PM at Bill Vallely Field. The first 75 paid spectators will receive a free bag of peanuts provided by Texas Roadhouse. Admission fees will be $3 for adults; $2 for students, veterans and senior citizens (60 and older); children 6 and under are free; and YC students, faculty and staff are free.
