Softball Splits a Pair of Friday Games in Yuma
The Roughrider softball team split a pair of games Friday in Yuma at the Great Western Shootout. YC knocked off the #13 College of Southern Idaho in the first game, 3-2 and were upended in the second game by Western Nevada College, 9-3 in 8 innings. YC is now 7-3 on the year.
In the opener, Samantha Blair went the distance from the circle giving up 2 unearned runs, 5 hits and 4 walks while striking out 3. Offensively, Beth Fanger was 1 for 2 with a double and 1 run scored. Shelby Burke was 1 for 3 with 2 runs batted in. Jocilyn Ellis was 1 for 4 with a run scored and Andrea Canela was 1 for 3.
In the nightcap, with the bases loaded and the game tied at 3, the Roughrider nine failed to push a run across sending the game into an extra frame. Western Nevada capitalized in their half of the 8th, plating 6 runs and shutting down the Roughriders in their half of the inning.
Fanger was 3 for 4 with an RBI and one run scored. Ellis was 2 for 3 with a run batted in and a run scored and Lynae Klemmendson was 1 for 3. Klemmendson began the game on slab throwing 5 2/3 innings and Blair took the loss in 3 innings pitched.
YC concludes play in Yuma on Saturday against Western Nevada College at 8:30 AM and Salt Lake CC at 10:45 AM.
