Softball Improves to 6-2 with Walk Off Winner

The Roughrider softball team upset #18 ranked Salt Lake Community College Thursday afternoon, 4-3, at the Great Western Shootout in Yuma. With the victory, YC avenges an 8-0 loss to the Bruins last week in Henderson, NV. YC is now 6-2 on the regular season.

With the game tied at 3 in the bottom of the 7th inning with 2 outs, Nicole Matta drove in Jessica Mesa for the walk-off run batted in. Beth Fanger led the Riders going 2 for 4 on the day.

Lynea Klemmedson started the game in the circle and threw 5 2/3 innings giving up 2 earned runs. Samantha Blair threw the final 1 1/3 innings allowing 1 earned run to record the victory.

YC continues tournament play on Friday against #13 College of Southern Idaho at 8:30 AM and Western Nevada College at 10:45 AM. Yavapai was scheduled to play Southern Idaho in Henderson a week ago and the game was called due to rain after three innings. The Roughriders were up 7-3 at the time of the cancellation. Later in the tournament, the Yavapai nine lost to Western Nevada, 6-2.
